September Newsletter

Hello All team Captains

This is the 10th of the results newsletters for the 2025 season,

Starting with a plea, we are 3 volunteers that have enjoyed playing in the Jubilee Cup over the years and are doing our level best to maintain and develop the competition but at times it is a difficult task to be there for all the scheduled events.

In that regard we would welcome more volunteers to get involved with some aspects of the organisation and running of the events, the later stages of the competition are particularly difficult for just 3 people to cover and some other helpers at the semi-finals and final days would be very very welcome.
So if anyone, who has enjoyed playing in the competition and would like to get involved a bit in helping run aspects of it then please get in touch at jubileecup@yahoo.co.uk

If you’d like to discuss it anything then get in touch. We’d be delighted to talk you through the tasks we do.

Thank you in advance for any support you can give.

So the semi final matches have all been played and the 2 teams that should have been contesting the 2025 Jubilee Cup at (Crondon Park) are:

Wanstead Golf Club who defeated Mardyke Valley 5 to 4 in an absolute classic semi final match up that looked like it could go either way, with Wanstead starting the match very strongly, taking the lead in almost all singles matches. A big fight back from Mardyke saw them take the lead at one point before Wanstead pairs fought back to make it tied with 1 game, game 7, remaining to be settled. This came down to the last putt on the 18 green with Wanstead, after a superb approach to the green, needing to halve the hole and win the match 1 Up, took the 2 putts needed to secure the match. Well played gents, a truly fabulous match and a big thank-you to Braintree Golf Club for hosting the match and providing such excellent hospitality. The superb steak pie supper was a great way to end such a contest.

In true Jubilee Cup style the 2nd semi-final was played the day before at Forrester Park Golf Club with Crondon Park the current holders defeating Stockbrook Manor 7 to 2 in what on paper seems a more straightforward result but wasn’t anything of the sort. Crondon also made a fast start but Stockbrook, the away specialists, really don’t know when they are beaten, also staged a serious comeback, with 4 matches being decided on the 18th green. Sadly for Stockbrook all 4 of these matches narrowly ended in Crondon Park’s favour and so they progress to the final. Again a very big thank-you to both teams for an excellent match played in absolutely the right spirit and to Forrester Park for being such excellent hosts, the course was in excellent condition after the recent rain and the chicken pie and apple crumble ended the precedings on a very high note.

A very big thank you to both venues for their support and understanding over the busy weekend.

A very big thank you to both venues for their support and understanding over the busy weekend.

This has, of course, given us a major headache, in that a new venue had to be found for the final and a huge thank-you goes out to Rochford Hundred, who at very late notice have very kindly agreed to host. Many thanks and we hope we can put in a match to rival and even beat the semi-finals.

The Final will be played at Rochford Hundred on the 28th September, first tee 1pm, come along and support the teams, it really is a great occasion. Anyone who can assist in ball spotting, score recording etc is especially welcome.

entries for the 2026 competition are open and many teams have got there entry in. The link to the entry form is below, this can also be accessed via the gateway page and very soon the Jubilee Cup website. The entry fee has been £40 for many years but we can no longer maintain it at that level and still offer the competition we do so from this year the committee has had to increase the entry fee to £50. We still think this is excellent value for the matches and competition that all teams get a chance to participate in and allows us to maintain the competition as it currently is. We very much hope all the teams understand in this regard. We know that clubs not currently playing in the Jubilee Cup are expressing an interest in joining so get your applications in asap to avoid any entry disappointment.

The order of merit competitions are almost settled with 1100 players representing their respective clubs across singles and pairs matches.

In the singles it’s looks like a fight between John Talbot (Crondon Park) and Dean Riches (Mardyke Valley) but Dave Pereira (Crondon Park) can still Mathematically take the top spot.

In the pairs we have a straight fight between Ian Attridge (Crondon Park) and Stuart Hurwitz (Wanstead) here’s hoping there’s the match up in the final to see who really is the top pairs player.

Good luck to all players and to both teams in the Final.
