Hello All team Captains

This is the 5th of the results Mail shots for the 2025 season, at the end of round 2. (with 1 score pending and 1 match delayed)

The tables are beginning to shape up now with almost all teams having played 2 league matches (and indeed 2 teams have played their 3rd round match already). Matches have been competitive and in many cases very very close calls, which is great to see, with many teams commenting on excellent matches (best in years was one teams view) played in the best of spirits and sportsmanship.

Whilst away wins in, or any points , Jubilee Cup matches seem impossible and rare.....! Two Teams have in round two bucked that trend ,Rochford GC drew away at Benton Hall with 5 matches being halved (3 singles and 2 fourballs) one singles match went down 18.

Also Crondon Park ,Stockbrook Manor ,Stoke By Nayland and The Warren have also won away.

And The Essex drew at 3 rivers away.

These hard earned points may be crucial for qualification from the group stages all will be revealed by End Of June ….

Great Golf all teams and good luck in your third round matches

One issue I would like to take a moment to highlight to captains as this has occurred a few times now. The Monday before any match is the handicap eligibility cut off, so if 10.5 and above for singles or 14.5 and above for pairs on the Monday morning and the player is eligible to play BUT they must play off their actual handicap on the day of the match, even if this is below the threshold. If the player plays off a handicap in a pairs match that is ABOVE their actual handicap then this would result in a forfeit of that game AND a 2 league point penalty irrespective of the match result.

Finally on the issue of eligibility, a number of players have moved clubs this season and this has prompted an issue over timing of membership and eligibility to play. This hasn’t really come up before and the committee has made a unanimous decision that a player becomes a member of a club the day that his payment is made and accepted by the receiving club, a definite and fixed point, not the date that the previous club releases the player which is very variable and therefore unfair. So if a new member became a paid up member of the club with the intention of this club being their HOME club on or before the 1st March 2025, then they are eligible to play providing all other eligibility criteria are met.

It has been brought to my attention (many thanks for this) that the example 4BBB handicap and shots allocation given in appendix 2 is incorrect. My sincere apologies for this. It seems this was missed in the rules review we undertook in February. I have updated the example and now the example matches what the spreadsheet actually calculates. Remember though it can’t do the correct calculation without correct handicap and course data which is often incomplete on the teams match sheets.

Remember the play by date for the match is 1st June 2025 and the 7 card eligibility date is/was the 4th May.
