Background To Competition
The Jubilee cup competition is a long established and successful golf competition run by other golfers on a voluntary basis and is independent of the Essex Golf union. There is a lot of information about the competition on this website including the rules, details of other competing clubs and details of this years and previous year's competitions.
A quick synopsis is as follows:
The competition is aimed at mid range handicappers with a WHI index of over 10.5 but less than 20 (approx. 12 – 24 in old money)
The Competition has been running Successfully since 2002 when the first winners were Abridge GC ,so thats 24 Years ..
Teams consist of 12 players – 6 singles and 6 double players
This year 2024 we had 48 teams competing - with 1,144 golfers Playing in the match’s
For each match there are six singles matches are played off scratch on a standard match play basis and three doubles matches which are played off 90% of handicap on a four ball better ball basis
There is a group stage to start with (like the champions league) and so each team is guaranteed at least 4 matches – two at home and two away which are drawn from groups of 5 or 6 teams
The top two from each of the 8 groups goes into the last 16 which proceeds on a standard drawn competition basis
The semi finals and final are played at neutral grounds and are followed by a meal and for the final a presentation of the trophies
Competing teams must agree to extend the courtesy of their course for visiting teams : practice rounds are at discretion of home club but if a fee is charged it is normally a guest rate
The entry fee is £50 and payment details are included on the entry form

A great day was had by all at Rochford Golf Club where the final was held to deliver another fantastic jubilee cup. Thankfully the weather stayed mostly fine with some late drizzle to spoil things a bit.
The course was presented in excellent condition and many thanks to management and green keeping staff.
Wanstead Golf Club and Crondon Park had overcome Mardyke Valley and Stock Brook Manor in the semi finals with much much closer games than the end results would suggest. At Braintree the Final pairs game was decided on the 18 th with a narrow nailbitting win by Wanstead over Mardyke Valley.
The game started with many games Going Wanstead Golf Club’s way but Crondon park Pulled back at one stage to make it 5-4 to them overall . Very close .
came back from 4 down to to win and claim second in singles order of merit.
In Steve Gand Alan Ro game there was never a hole in it, and the match ended up all square.
Baldev Shembi sneaked out a win against Jon Talbot(Singles OOM Winner) with several pitch in’s . Again a match that all day there was only one hole in it.
We compliment both captains for the spirit in which the match was played. Thanks Wayne and Steve .
Unfortunately there is only one winner and eventually the final result was 5.5 to 3.5 to Wayne Moriarity and his Wanstead GC team.
Now the final is over, just a few drinks to look forward to and, some great grub and speeches from captains and presentation of all the trophies for the Jubilee cup 2025 .
